Capitals

A capital is the top section of a column, often enhanced with decorative details. There are three basic styles of classic column capitals, Doric, Ionic and Corinthian, that date back to the sixteenth century.

With Doric columns, most of the capital will be convex, or curving outward

Ionic columns will have capitals that scroll outward

Corinthian capitals have an upside down bell shape, and are usually the most ornate
